I am a 51-year-old guy who lives in Aandalsnes, Norway with my wife, Toril, and my dog, Sansa. I work as a police officer, with special responsibilities for investigations and drug-related crimes. My huge passion in my free time is fly fishing.
I landed my first silvery, fresh salmon in the summer of ’95 from the beautiful river Rauma. After that, I was completely entranced, and since then I have devoted more or less all my free time to fly fishing. Over the years, I have mostly fished for salmon and sea trout in Norway, but I have also experienced adventurous trips to New Zealand, Canada, Iceland, Rio Grande TDF, Denmark and not least Scotland, where it all started on the beautiful River Dee.
Over time, my passion for fly fishing has given me knowledge and valuable experience of casting technique, choice of tackle and not least the ability to read the conditions in a river. In recent years, I have therefore guided and taught people to fly fish, on request.
I am also a part time ambassador for Elveguiden (elveguiden.no), a platform for communication and management of salmon fishing in Norway. In this role, my efforts primarily relate to fishing information and management/administrative work in my area of Rauma/Romsdalen. As we all know, the wild salmon is threatened, which is why my involvement, in this capacity, is very important to me.
I have always thought that all too many of us fly fishers do not differentiate between casting a fly and fishing a fly. There is a similar large difference between kicking a football and playing football.
As a fly fisherman, I prefer to strive for a constant foundation of control and technique with a continuous search for perfect presentation. With this approach, the physical effort is reduced significantly, the effectiveness is increased and the experience of being by the river is greatly enhanced.
