Every summer since 2005, I have been fortunate enough to spend between 2-5 weeks on several rivers on The Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec, Canada. The time I have spent there has mainly been on the three famous rivers, The Grande Cascapedia, The Petite Cascapedia and The Bonaventure River.
These three rivers have one thing in common; they all start their flows over beds of stones and pebbles high up in the Chic-Choc Mountains and end their flows in the Baie des Chaleurs. The remarkable quality of their crystal-clear and cold waters provides excellent conditions, especially in terms of sight fishing, and in an astonishingly beautiful “wild” nature. I have walked and fished every single pool on these three rivers over the past 17 years. It has been a great joy to witness how nature has changed the rivers from one year to the next. It is marvelous when nature is given the opportunity to be what it should be naturally – wild!
This beautiful part of the world and those breathtaking rivers, as well as all the people around those rivers, have had a great impact on my life, not only as a person who loves nature dearly, but also as a very passionate salmon fly fisherman. The rivers are stunningly beautiful, and I have had the pleasure of interacting with many wonderful people over the years, many of those are now considered cherished friends.
Therefore, I decided a couple of years ago that I wanted to design and develop a fly reel to honor and pay tribute to these 3 magnificent rivers. Now my vision of the Gaspé reel series has finally materialized.
Each reel in the Gaspé reel series is designed to have a classic look, with identical holes drilled into both the solid side plates and the spool.
The reels are finished off with an elegant and historical-looking S-handle. The Gaspe fly reels are a very modern-day reel but reminiscent of the past. All reels are of course with large arbor.
The color that I chose for the reels is a reflection of the surroundings, as I see it – lush green when nature is at its best. The clicker on the reel is made to produce a quiet and beautiful sound, which you’ll especially notice when you’ve got a lively fish hooked. In my point of view, there is really no need to disturb nature’s own sounds and songs.
The reels are made from the cleanest aluminium alloy available in Europe. All the mechanical parts are of course updated to be incorporated in a 2023 product. The brake system is solid stainless vanadium steel alloy, and the brake disc and pads are made of fiber armed PTFE. The running axes are hard coated in a special treatment where PTFE particles are embedded into the pores of the aluminum surface – the reels are completely sealed and waterproof.
On request in advance, all sizes can be set up for either left- or right-hand rewind.
The Gaspé reel series are recommended with our G&G system – if you do know your casting weight for your rod, you will also know which reel to pick.
Each reel has its own unique serial number and comes with a two-year warranty. Your warranty can be registered on our website.
